Community Mall in the Heart of Bangkok’s Sukhumvit — True Digital Park Embraces Green Economy Policies
One initiative: A food waste composter that turns waste into fertilizer within 24 hours

Why should the business sector prioritize environmental sustainability?

The Thai government has set a target to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065. This commitment was declared by Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland, on November 1, 2021. This statement became a key milestone that prompted both public and private sectors to align their policies and actions with the government’s sustainability goals under global frameworks.

True Digital Park, developed and managed by Magnolia Quality Development Corporation Limited, has been recognized by the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO) for its efforts in energy conservation, proper waste disposal, waste segregation, and food waste management — earning over 500 carbon credits. The project has also been selected as one of seven Smart City design support projects by the Ministry of Energy in collaboration with the Thailand Green Building Institute, aiming to enhance community energy efficiency under the Smart Cities – Clean Energy initiative.

From “Waste” to “Fertilizer” in 24 Hours

Ms. Nattakarn Klowutthianan, Managing Director of Oklin (Thailand) Co., Ltd., a provider of food waste composting machines that transform waste into fertilizer within 24 hours, revealed that private businesses significantly contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. Waste, particularly food waste, is a major source of methane gas, which is 27 times more potent than carbon dioxide in terms of global warming potential.

Installing food waste composters in commercial facilities provides measurable, tangible results. One example is True Digital Park, a community mall in Bangkok’s Sukhumvit area, which has implemented Oklin’s technology for food waste management.

Ms. Nattakarn emphasized that businesses must address environmental issues not only because sustainability is a global priority, but also because investors and consumers are becoming more environmentally conscious. Going forward, businesses that deliver strong returns while implementing environmental policies will hold a competitive advantage.

Thailand’s Greenhouse Gas Management Roadmap

As stated, the government aims to reach net-zero emissions by 2065. According to the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO), there are currently no mandatory laws requiring private businesses to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. However, in 2023, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment began drafting the Climate Change Act (Global Warming Act) to present to Parliament.

In the meantime, the government is encouraging all sectors to adopt ESG principlesEnvironmental, Social, and Governance — to ensure organizations grow sustainably and address core issues in all three dimensions.

The TGO has also developed the T-VER Program (Thailand Voluntary Emission Reduction Program), a mechanism that certifies carbon credits, which can be used to offset greenhouse gas emissions at organizational, product, event, or even personal levels.

Currently, 319 projects are registered under the T-VER program, with 141 projects earning certified carbon credits — totaling 13,975,436 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent reduced, from 274 certifications.

Certified T-VER project types include renewable energy, energy efficiency improvement, waste management, waste-to-energy projects, transportation management, forestry and green space, agriculture, and others.

OKLIN – Eco-Friendly Food Waste Composter
Turns food waste into dry fertilizer within 24 hours. It handles liquids without the need for separation, requires only a one-time microbial starter with no refills for its entire lifespan, and uses natural microbial decomposition that is safe for the environment. The process produces ready-to-use organic fertilizer and requires no filter changes, reducing hazardous waste. An Australian innovation, it is easy to use for both households and industrial applications.
