Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha Presides Over GCNT Forum 2022, Driving Climate Action and Nature Protection
Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha presided over the opening of the Annual Sustainability Leaders Meeting – GCNT Forum 2022, organized by the Global Compact Network Thailand (GCNT). The event was attended by Supachai Chearavanont, GCNT President and CEO of Charoen Pokphand Group, along with representatives from Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CPF) and over 100 leading businesses. Together, they pledged to collaborate on addressing climate change and protecting nature through strategic, measurable, and scalable actions under the theme: “Accelerating Business Solutions to Tackle Climate & Biodiversity Challenges” at the United Nations Conference Center, Ratchadamnoen Road, Bangkok.
The GCNT Forum is held annually by GCNT in collaboration with the United Nations in Thailand. This year’s event was also honored by the presence of Varawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, and Gita Sabharwal, UN Resident Coordinator in Thailand, along with senior executives from government agencies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET).
As a GCNT member, CPF and other CP Group companies reaffirmed their tangible, measurable, and scalable commitment to Climate Action and Nature Protection at the national level. The CPF delegation included Siripong Arunratana, Chief Operating Officer of the Livestock Business, Peerapong Krinchai, Executive Vice President of Central Engineering, and Wuttichai Sithipreedanant, Senior Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development.
Wuttichai emphasized that CPF is committed to operating sustainably, recognizing the importance of biodiversity and ecosystems. The company actively contributes to the protection and restoration of natural resources, reduces and offsets greenhouse gas emissions, and promotes Nature-based Solutions to mitigate climate change impacts and biodiversity loss. Through these actions, CPF aims to strengthen resilience against the ongoing global environmental crisis.

GCNT Members Commit to Sustainable and Equitable Biodiversity Management Across the Supply Chain
Wuttichai stated that GCNT members have jointly pledged to sustainably and equitably manage biodiversity throughout their supply chains, supported by systems for assessing and monitoring biodiversity value. The commitment also includes enhancing community and stakeholder engagement, analyzing climate change risks and opportunities, and assessing business impacts. In addition, members have pledged to set greenhouse gas reduction targets aligned with the Paris Agreement and based on scientific principles, as well as international cooperation—helping Thailand achieve its goal of protecting at least 30% of its terrestrial and marine areas by 2030.
Wuttichai also participated in a panel discussion with leaders from top organizations to share insights on corporate strategies for biodiversity restoration and loss mitigation. He emphasized that CPF has set concrete sustainability goals under its CPF 2030 Sustainability in Action framework, with a clear roadmap toward achieving Net-Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The company places strong importance on biodiversity protection and has announced operational guidelines to reach Net-Zero, focusing on two key pathways:
-
Decarbonization: Enhancing production efficiency, adopting innovation and technology in manufacturing, increasing renewable energy use, developing low-carbon products, designing energy-efficient plants and farms, optimizing resource use, and minimizing waste emissions.
-
Carbon Removal: CPF has set a Zero Deforestation target by 2030, covering its own operations and suppliers of key agricultural raw materials, including corn, fishmeal, palm oil, soybeans, and cassava. The company also participates in forest restoration and tree planting projects nationwide.
In February 2022, CPF signed onto the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), committing to achieving Net-Zero emissions in line with the Paris Agreement’s scientific guidelines. The SBTi is a global partnership between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute, and the World Wide Fund for Nature, with over 2,000 companies joining since its launch in 2015. The initiative’s goal is to set science-based targets to limit global warming to 1.5°C. To support this mission, CPF has established a Climate Change Management Working Group for Sustainability to drive its Net-Zero transition.
