SX Food Festival Kicks Off at SX 2022 – Serving Up Delicious, Sustainable Plates with Zero Food Waste by OKLIN at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center
On September 24, the opening day of the SX Food Festival at the Sustainability Expo 2022 (SX 2022) — ASEAN’s largest sustainability event — took place at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC). The festival zone opened ahead of the event’s official grand opening scheduled for September 26.
Throughout the day, visitors flocked to taste and shop in the vibrant SX Food Festival area, which is divided into sub-zones representing Thai, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and European cuisine — over 100 restaurants in total. Each zone is beautifully decorated, making it a popular photo spot for attendees.
Mrs. Tongjai Thanachanan, Director of SX 2022, explained the purpose of the SX Food Festival:
Food as a key to sustainability – Eating habits can either harm or heal the planet, especially when considering food waste, packaging, and waste management.
Connecting with the public – While many sustainability events speak primarily to businesses, SX 2022 wanted to engage directly with everyday consumers through something tangible and relatable: food.
Partnership with celebrity chefs – SX 2022 collaborates with MasterChef Thailand and Iron Chef Thailand, both of which prioritize sustainable gastronomy. Twenty chefs from these programs are participating in the festival, sharing their vision for sustainable food through live cooking demonstrations of special dishes.
“SX 2022 is the largest sustainability expo in ASEAN, and the SX Food Festival brings together an incredible range of renowned restaurants in one place. With a Food Waste Station and an Organic Market, we aim to raise awareness and inspire everyone to embrace sustainability, especially in the food sector,” said the SX 2022 Director.
The SX Food Festival spans over 10,000 square meters of QSNCC, offering an international dining experience — from street food legends to luxury hotel restaurants — including: Je Daeng Samyan, Je Khai Seafood, Je Jong Fried Pork, Sirinthip Khanom Buang Talad Phlu, Montien Hotel Chicken Rice, restaurants from the Oishi Group, the world’s first sesame milk by Sesamilk Thailand, Man Fu Yuan, Jok Toh Diao, Overseoul, Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok, Le Meridien, The Athenee, and Lady Butcher, among many others.
The festival also features live cooking demos by celebrity chefs from MasterChef Thailand and Iron Chef Thailand, such as Chef Off – Nattawut Thampan, Chef R – Theerapat Tiyasunthornanon, Chef Prueng Sampanthavorabut, Chef Kaew – Paweenuch Yodpricha, Chef First – Thanapat Suyao, and Chef Paope – Jessica Huang, preparing healthy dishes using organic ingredients.
Sustainability Highlight: This year, the SX Food Festival aims to achieve zero food waste, with OKLIN’s innovative technology converting leftover food scraps into organic compost within 24 hours — helping turn sustainability from concept into practice.
The SX Food Festival also features a Village: Food Waste Station, where staff guide visitors on proper waste separation. Guests can bring their food scraps to be processed in an OKLIN food waste composter, which turns organic waste into high-quality compost within 24 hours. The compost is then used for planting trees — and visitors can take home 200 free bags of OKLIN compost each day.
The zone also includes a special recycling activity: bring one bottle for recycling to earn one point. Collect 10 points and redeem them for a free bottle of drinking water or other giveaways from the event.
In addition, the festival features an Organic Market offering organic products from communities across Thailand, including Nan Organic Farming Network, Jan Kub Phak, Dairy Home, Doi Kham, GRAND Organic — a certified Thai organic farm, and IFOAM, presenting vegetable-based snacks and more.
Visitors can taste and shop from over 100 signature food vendors at the SX Food Festival from September 24 to October 2, 2022, 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM at the LG Floor, Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. Other exhibition zones will open from September 26 to October 2, 2022.
SX 2022 is organized by five leading sustainability-driven organizations in Thailand: Frasers Property (Thailand) Public Company Limited, PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC), The Siam Cement Public Company Limited (SCG), Thai Beverage Public Company Limited, and Thai Union Group Public Company Limited, covering more than 40,000 square meters of the venue.
