SISB Thonburi Campus Donates 3,000 Kilograms of Organic Plant Nutrient Supplement to the Forest Industry Organization, Advancing the Transformation of Food Waste into Sustainable Forest Restoration
Oklin (Thailand) Co., Ltd., in collaboration with Singapore International School Bangkok, Thonburi Campus (SISB Thonburi), continues to promote sustainable food waste management through the initiative “Turning Food Waste into Plant Nutrient Supplement, Giving New Life to Forests.” Food waste generated within the school is processed using OKLIN’s innovative food waste composter technology and transformed into organic plant nutrient supplement. A total of 3,000 kilograms was donated to the Forest Industry Organization (FIO) to support its mission in forest planting, maintenance, and restoration, as well as to enhance green areas and strengthen sustainable carbon sequestration capacity.
The handover ceremony was held at the headquarters of the Forest Industry Organization in Bangkok. Mr. Edwin Wong, School Director; Mr. Pranachai Sukhyanga, Operations Manager; and Ms. Natthakan Klawutthanan, Managing Director of Oklin (Thailand) Co., Ltd., represented the donors in presenting the organic plant nutrient supplement to the Forest Industry Organization. The donation was received by Mr. Chanudom Phetrasang, Deputy Director and Acting Director of the Forest Industry Organization, together with Mr. Suratchai Inwiset, Director of the Marketing Business Office, who welcomed the delegation and joined in discussions on future collaboration to advance sustainable food waste management and forest resource restoration.
The organic plant nutrient supplement donated on this occasion will be used to nourish forest plantation areas, improve soil quality, support healthy tree growth, enhance ecosystem fertility, and increase carbon absorption capacity. This serves as an important mechanism in supporting the conservation of natural resources and the country’s environmental development.
SISB Thonburi Campus places great importance on integrating sustainability into both learning and students’ daily lives. With the installation of OKLIN food waste composters within the school, food waste from the canteen can be efficiently repurposed, reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill and transforming it into usable organic plant nutrient supplement. OKLIN technology can reduce food waste volume by approximately 80–90% within 24 hours, while also helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support the concept of the Circular Economy.
Beyond its environmental benefits, this initiative also serves as a valuable learning platform for students. It provides them with the opportunity to learn from real-life practices, from food waste segregation and technology-based processing to the use of the final output to benefit society and the environment. The project helps cultivate responsibility, environmental awareness, and a deeper understanding that everyone can play a part in reducing waste and addressing climate change.
The collaboration between SISB Thonburi Campus, Oklin (Thailand) Co., Ltd., and the Forest Industry Organization is a strong example of integrated cooperation among the education sector, private sector, and government agency. Together, they are transforming food waste into meaningful value, turning waste into a resource that supports forest restoration, reduces environmental impact, and creates lasting benefits for society.
The initiative “Turning Food Waste into Plant Nutrient Supplement, Giving New Life to Forests” is therefore more than a donation of organic plant nutrient supplement. It represents the sharing of a mindset focused on efficient resource use, waste reduction at source, and environmental collaboration. The initiative reflects the shared commitment of all sectors to building a greener future while passing on the values of education, innovation, and social responsibility to the next generation in a sustainable way.
