The handover ceremony was held at the Office of the Royal Development Projects Board (ORDPB), joined by teachers, staff, and student representatives from SISB International Schools, alongside Ms. Nattakarn Klawvuthanan, Managing Director of Oklin (Thailand) Co., Ltd. The donation was officially received by Mr. Suporn Treenarintr, Secretary-General of the ORDPB.

Turning Waste into Resources for Society
Under the concept of “Turning Waste into Value”, SISB International Schools have installed two Oklin food waste composters since the start of the program, processing food waste from within the schools through a biodegradation process that can reduce waste volume by 80–90% within just 24 hours.

To date, the project has processed over 27,000 kilograms of food waste, producing high-quality plant nutrients used for restoring green spaces, vegetation, and safe agriculture—without leaving any harmful residues to the environment.

The 2,000 kilograms delivered in this handover will support the ORDPB’s nationwide Royal Initiative Projects, supplying nutrients for tree planting, forest care, and sustainable natural resource restoration.

Learning “Sufficiency and Sustainability”
After the ceremony, Mr. Suporn Treenarintr led the students on a tour of the ORDPB’s exhibition space, sharing insights into its role in coordinating Royal Initiative Projects focused on self-reliance, resource balance, and community participation at all levels.

This activity not only broadened the students’ perspectives but also instilled a sense of social and environmental responsibility through real-world experience—bridging classroom learning with the nation’s development context.

Integrating Education for a Sustainable Future
Beyond environmental goals, SISB integrates the food waste project into its curriculum across various subjects such as science, technology, and environmental studies, as well as group activities. Students learn about the composting process, waste separation, product benefits, and the application of the fertilizer to the school’s own agricultural plots—fostering a deep understanding of the resource cycle, waste impacts on ecosystems, and the importance of waste segregation.

A Model for a Green City
The initiative also contributes to Net Zero Carbon targets by reducing methane emissions from organic waste and easing Bangkok’s waste management burden. It demonstrates that a school can be more than just a learning space—it can be a true catalyst for systemic change.

This handover marks an important step for SISB International Schools and Oklin (Thailand) Co., Ltd., showcasing the power of cross-sector collaboration to transform waste into opportunity and pass on lasting value to communities, society, and the nation.
