Singapore International Schools (SISB) continues to advance the “Zero Food Waste Campus” initiative.

Singapore International Schools (SISB) continues to advance the “Zero Food Waste Campus” initiative as a model of an environmentally conscious and sustainability-driven educational institution. The school has integrated Oklin (Thailand) Co., Ltd.’s biotechnology-based food waste management system into its campus operations, transforming food waste into “plant nutrients” that can be reused in organic farming activities and green spaces within the school.

On this occasion, SISB International Schools donated more than 3,000 kilograms of plant nutrients, produced from over 17,700 kilograms of food waste, to the Chaipattana Foundation. The donation will support soil enrichment and agricultural development under the Royal Initiative Projects, as well as be distributed to farming communities in various areas to help reduce chemical fertilizer use and promote sustainable agriculture.

The handover ceremony was represented by Mr. Koh Yew Hock (Chief Executive Officer, SISB Public Company Limited) and Mr. Aaron Ngiam (Corporate Director, Operations) together with Ms. Nattakarn Klorwutthianan, Managing Director of Oklin (Thailand) Co., Ltd., who jointly presented the donation to Dr. Sumet Tantivejkul, Member and Secretary-General of the Chaipattana Foundation, who graciously accepted the handover.

School executives, teachers, and students from SISB Thonburi campus also attended the event as youth representatives, symbolizing the next generation’s commitment to sustainability while learning about systematic food waste management in an inspiring and warm atmosphere.

During the ceremony, Dr. Sumet Tantivejkul shared the history of the Chaipattana Foundation and the Royal Initiatives of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great and His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua, emphasizing the importance of using resources wisely and fostering sustainability across environmental, agricultural, and community development dimensions. He commended SISB for its dedication to implementing these principles within the school.

Dr. Sumet also presented souvenirs to the school’s executives, staff, and students as a symbol of the continued commitment to the Royal Initiatives and in appreciation of the collaborative efforts that promote sustainable development.

The plant nutrients donated to the Chaipattana Foundation will be utilized across various agricultural areas under the Foundation’s initiatives, as well as distributed to farmer groups in several provinces nationwide. They will be used to enrich soil and support the cultivation of chemical-free vegetables, helping reduce production costs and improve soil fertility—further extending the principles of the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy and sustainable agriculture to the community level.

SISB International Schools continues to actively implement its “Zero Food Waste Campus” initiative by integrating environmental learning into the curriculum through activities such as:

  • Zero Food Waste Day – encouraging students to reduce food waste at lunchtime

  • Clean Plate Challenge – promoting mindful eating and finishing all food on their plates

  • School organic gardening projects using plant nutrients produced from school food waste

These programs help instill in students an appreciation for resource conservation and the values of responsible global citizenship.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone between the education sector and Thai private organizations in advancing Zero Food Waste practices and the Circular Economy, in alignment with the Royal Initiatives of both monarchs, who emphasized balancing development with environmental stewardship — paving the way toward a more sustainable and resilient future for Thailand.
